Roman Army

The roman army is probbably one of the most remembered things of the roman legacy among others, its because the army was one of the more lethal and organized armies in history.

Thanks to its army, the roman empire was able to conquere a large fraction of the known world. The roman army is divided in two eras, the republic army and the empire army.

Thats because the structure changed dramatically, for example, the roman legion consisted of 4,200 men while the empire legion had 6,000 each.

When rome won the punic wars against Carthage, began to deploy forces to all europe. The deployement of legions thrugh its history was this:

The roman soldiers ussually used short swords called gladius and were divided into three grades: Centurion, his sword was carried in his left, had attached to his helment a crest made by horsehair. Legionary infantryman, they had a gaellic helment, his sword was carried in his right and had a big wooden shield.The cornicen were soldiers who carried a cornu, a kind of a trumpet to advise troops or to give indications during battle.
