
In the Roman Families the members of it were the parentes, children (biological or adopted), grandparents and slaves. The families educated its own children and that constituded the moral bases of the Roman society. Also it was very necessary for the Roman Empire to keep the important families name so they marriage them with politica porpuses, but this idea didn't worked out as well as they thought so the emperor offer the families money to marriege.
People could marriege as many times as they want because they wanted to win political power and money, but the person belongs to its original families.
Domus was an important legal concept becuase it means home and included the wife, children, desendence, children and slaves; usually the oldest male was the pater familia or head of the family and was legaly state of state owner. Pater familia was a term used firstly as the head of the family and later it was used for legal trance as lands owner, etc.
