ENTERTAIMENT IN ANCIENT ROMAN EMPIRE

Entertainment was essential in Romans daily life, Romans were very interested in theaters, amphitheaters and circuses, they never seemed to be bored. Circuses were built around a U shaped arena with an elaborately barrier. Many events were hold in Roman circuses. The oldest and most popular pastime of Romans was called Chariot Races and they take place in the circuses. Also in circuses were holing events such as foot and horse racing, athletics, battlers among others.
On the other hand, many shows take place in the Roman Amphitheaters. Amphitheaters were most commonly used for gladiatorial matches and for other spectacles included naval battles. In small towns, the local Amphitheater could be the only entertainment. Due to their massive size, they were usually constructed on the edge of a city or directly outside its walls. Military amphitheaters built near forts and fortresses served as training grounds for soldiers.
Theaters were another place of entertainment for Romans. They were built of stone; it had a seating capacity of 27,000. The theaters have a circular space located in the front where the choruses and actors performed. All actors in Roman plays were male slaves. Men played the parts of women. The typical stock characters included the rich man, the king, the soldier, the slave, the young man, and the young woman. If necessary, an actor would play two or more roles in a single performance.
